This is generally the right place to put tool configuration data, packages, etc. So, if you install it globally, it's not require -able.

I learned this trick from a thanks. See the section below for details. These are potentially very crippling issues. You could, in theory, store bits that end up getting executed indirectly, but that would be a bad practice, as there are more appropriate places to put such things.

This is where we get into territory that is perhaps not as well documented as we might like. Now we have : this location is not checked by the system and your global packages are not going to be found. Our binaries are now found. What, further, if we make Homebrew do a cleanup and it actually deletes the previous Node folder and all of our symlinks. Looks like a bit of npm global install path mess. Luckily and this is where we might like the Yarn documentation to be a little more thorough than it is we can actually specify to Yarn where it should put the symlinks to the binaries of the global packages it installs. Good stuff — problem solved. The problem is that you have a system path pointing to a user install. This should never be allowed. Unfortunately, I have not found the solution in yarn for this just yet.

What happens when you want to update project A, but it breaks project B? The npm folder in that directory is empty and never gets anything added to it when i use the -g when installing packages. Packages that Advocate Global Installation These packages tell you to install them globally. Because the account running node and configuring node are different, I can't configure node system-wide to use a specific prefix. You can install tons of great stuff quickly and efficiently with it. It was opening Environment Variables and closing it that made it work. Also, by using npm scripts, anyone who clones your project should have simple and immediate documentation regarding all the processes you run on your project right in the package.
